Dr. Paul McConnell

Dr. Paul McConnell is a graduate of the University of Glasgow and has been practicing anaesthesia and critical care for 20 years. He has a specialist interest in the law and ethics and was awarded his Masters in Healthcare Law and Ethics from the University of Manchester. He is currently in his second term as Chair of the Scientific Ethics Subcommittee of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care. An honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Glasgow, he teaches on research and clinical ethics for the Critical Care Masters programme as well as preparation for practice for final year medical students. He was part of a team which was awarded the Humphry Davy medal by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for work in the area of ethics and safeguarding and is heavily involved in local, regional and national teaching programmes. He has written on a variety of ethical topics including consent, end of life care and resource
