Climate and Clothing

You can expect very pleasant temperatures during the day in November.

The average maximum daytime temperature in Tel Aviv in November lies at 23.5°C (74.3°F).

Warm clothing is recommended, with something a bit warmer to wear in the evening.

In general, Israeli dress code is very casual. There is no formal dress code for business meetings, most restaurants or cultural events.

 

Currency

The Israeli currency is New Israeli Shekel (NIS).

Banknotes in use are: 20 ILS, 50 ILS, 100 ILS and 200 ILS. Coins in use are: 10 Agorot, 50 Agorot, 1 ILS, 2 ILS, 5 ILS and 10 ILS (One New Israeli Shekel = 100 Agorot).

Foreign currency (and traveler's cheques in most major foreign currencies) can be exchanged at any bank, post office, most of the larger hotels and currency exchange locations around the city.

 

Credit Cards

American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops.

 

Electricity

In Israel the power plugs and sockets are of type C (EU) and H (unique to Israel but works with plug C). The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Please note the socket types below (diagram #1 is the most currently available socket type).

An adaptor may be needed. Adaptors are easy to find at airports, hotels and shops in the area.

 

Business Hours

Major shops and public offices are generally open as follows:

Sunday to Thursday – 08:30-13:00; 16:00-18:30, Friday – 08:30-12:00.

Saturday – Closed.

Smaller grocery shops around the city are open every day until 23:00.

 

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in public buildings, shopping malls, cinemas, theaters and on public transport. 

 

Taxes

VAT (17%) is included in the price of all products and services, and should not be paid separately.

 

Tipping

Gratuities are optional. The common practice is to give 10-20% in restaurants and bars for good service.
